Prague day 1
The night bus was less than pleasant.
We were hoping it would be pretty empty, and we would be able to stretch out at the back to get some rest.
IT WAS PACKED. Everyone was tired, grumpy and started to get feisty about which seat is theirs and where they could put their stuff. We were able to grab seats beside each other. If we hadn’t I don’t think either of us would have slept at all. The guy behind us on the bus was stinky and there was a group of girls talking, so it was not the best great conditions for sleeping. I was so over tired I was able to catch some sleep. I would wake up every hour or so to adjust my body and wake up whatever limb had pins and needles in it. Hahaha lovely hey?
We got to Prague right on time at 5:50am and walked to our hostel. We were sort of hoping there would be a lounge room/ kitchen for us to lie down for a bit but the best we could find is some benches in the lobby. I slept like a baby! I think the front desk worker was amazed we could sleep there, and from his reaction to our asking if it would be okay to sleep there I don’t think anyone had done that before. It was glorious! I fully slept in a brightly lit lobby for a few hours and sleep had never felt so good. Sabrina and I couldn’t stop laughing at ourselves.
Around 9am we got up to walk around Prague and see some sights. It was pretty busy with tourists and we were both running on empty so we only did low energy activities. We did a lot of people watching sitting on the bridge and then at the park. The highlight of my day was getting gluten free chimney cakes.
There is only one place that sells them. “Good Food” They were out of the shells so they asked if I was okay waiting while they cooked one up. I was happy to wait but the manager (maybe owner) went above and beyond to keep us happy. She first gave me a free tea, and then brought over a massive cup of strawberries and chocolate soft serve ice cream. Then she brought Sabrina a raspberry frozen yogurt even thought she didn’t even buy anything. It was the best treatment ever! By the time my treat came I was stuffed by all the goodies she had already fed us. She was so sweet and even let us go behind the bar to take a photo with her. I loved her! What an amazing experience. If you ever go to Prague, don’t buy chimney cakes from the TRDL the massive chain in town, walk to St. Charles bridge and hit up Good Food, it is well worth it.
St. Charles bridge is pretty amazing itself, it is hundreds of years old and has seen everything from beheadings to sword fights over the years. Amazing to think about when you see it covered in tourists how different it would have been in those times.
We made scrambled eggs for dinner and had an early night to finish our first day in Prague.
