Brave the cold

Day 1 in Vienna:

We started the day by going to visit the gardens which scenes of the Sound of music were filmed in..It didn’t quite look the same because of the snow but still pretty. Then we went on a train ride through the snowy hills/ country side to Vienna.

I thought Salzburg was cold but… IT IS DAMN COLD IN VIENNA.. ok its only -6c but that is brutal when you don’t have a proper winter coat.

The skytrain system is 10/10 here so at least you can warm up underground. We walked to the Belvedere Palace and it was beautiful but from now on I think I will just use the trains. I thought the palace itself looked just like it does on the vodka bottles haha but turns out Belvedere vodka is named after a palace in Warsaw! So I was feeding everyone false information with that one.

After we met up with Ross, a friend from BCOM at UVIC who was in Vienna for exchange last semester and will soon start co-op in Germany. He took us to an amazing outdoor skating rink and we got Puntch (hot apple cider) and Kinder Puntch (kid cider…non-alcoholic) to warm up. We skated for a bit and then had to take a break for dinner to warm up but there was a pub beside the rink and you could wear your skates in. I think my toes nearly fell off. FOr dinner I ate bacon wrapped weinerwurst and fries, then we headed back out to the rink. The hotdogs here are killer so I plan to eat as many as I can on this trip. (Current count is 3)
