Day trip to Florence

This morning we bussed from Genova to Florence. The drive was quite beautiful with long stretches of tunnels and little villages. I noticed there was a lot of smoke.. I thought there might be a forest fire but I googled it and apparently northern Italy has a problem with air pollution. Yikes.

Florence itself is much busier than I imagined. I sort of thought it was going to be more of a little town than a small city. We walked another 15 km today! We all walked did some window shopping and just generally took in the views.

For lunch we went to a famous sandwich shop. They had photos of celebrities who had visited all over the walls and are knows for their fun attitude. Like the guys joke around and are having a blast making sandwiches there. It SUPER sucked being celiac there because the food looked and smelled amazing! But thats ok I ate some strange Italian Cheetos out of my backpack, so clearly a superior meal.

Later Sara, Kristina and I went to a museum to see Michelangelo’s “The David” HOLY CRAP ITS A HUGE STATUE! From photos I have seen I always thought he was the size of a normal man… Nope that was a false assumption for sure. It was a bit pricey for the museum entrance for such as small museum but honestly the David is the most memorable piece of art i have ever seen so it was definitely worth it.

Here are some more photos from the day and the amazing architecture! It’s insane that this is an after thought in this post. Back at home if any of these buildings were around they would be a major tourist attraction.
