Vancouver? Is that you?

Today was RAINY CITY, it felt like a work day at home lol. I fell asleep yesterday to the sound of rain, and woke up to more rain… it really did not let up basically all day.

My work day was good, I did a lot of graphic creation for Facebook posts so it was pretty laid back.

I chatted with some of the others in the co-working space, one guy owns a solo SAS (software as a service) start up and the other one is working for a photography marketplace tech start up and plans to quit soon for 3 months off and then will be starting his own start up…. overachievers!

I tease…. it’s actually super cool to talk to them about their lifestyles, they really are digital nomads, just travelling and living in hostels. The guy from cali told me he usually meets his friends in ski towns all winter renting houses and then in the summer they will rent lake houses or travel around. He’s been travelling for 2 years now and plans to always do this.

I get it, the adventure side is awesome and you get to see so much of the world, but I find comfort in having a home base. I like having a group of friends I see all the time and routine and stability. I don’t think I could go full digital nomad but I do like my trips and working online while I visit Annika. Maybe I will be a snowbird and sublet my room in the darkest Canadian months.

After work I got dressed up again and took myself to dinner. I decided to try Cafe Azul, I got a seat at the bar and turned to my left and it was the two Canadian Girls from Karaoke! What a coincidence! This is a little embarrassing but I do not know both of their names with full confidence. Sam and Caroline? Cara? Ah its really too late to ask now, they leave tomorrow anyways so I guess it’s okay haha. We ate together then went to the grocery store.

On the walk home a security guard gave me a flower he picked off a bush hahaha, isn’t that wholesome. I think he has a little crush on me because I walk by every day on the way to dinner and say hi, yesterday he asked me if I spoke Spanish and I said no and today I got a flower. I think he is like 19 or 20, he seems young but it was very sweet. I should have stopped to say a better thank you but we were walking back and I was so caught off guard I just said omg gracias, and adios!

I wish boys would give me flowers in Vancouver, what the heck. Maybe I need to go on more routine walks. There are security guards at all the hotel and restaurant parking lots, seems like a pretty solid gig. They all just hangout and chat and make sure no one robs the cars which would seem like a bold move with so many of them all over the block.

Back at the hostel I went to the restaurant where they were doing a salsa class, I missed the main class part but there was a performer doing live loop music where he played on instrument, recorded it, put it on loop then layer with more instrument loops. WHAT TALENT THAT TAKES! People are so impressive, especially musicians.

Sometimes I wish I stuck with piano but I also didn’t like practicing it so maybe it was the wrong instrument. I think I have a decent ear for music and have a blind confidence that I could be a really good DJ/ remix artist if I set my mind to it. I think you can become good at anything with practice but being on my computer after work is something I avoid so I need to find a hobby that is not tech related in any way.

Overall another good day in Costa Rica!
