Pesadilla

Yesterday started out chill, I went to work got all set up in the co-working space.. then BOOM… my laptop would not connect to wifi.

So I did my zoom call from my cell phone and then started a text chain with apple support. We tried troubleshooting for like 2 + hours and then they accelerated it to an engineer in India. Talked to them on the phone but not luck, so then finally I talked to a lady in Texas who tried more stuff with me but no luck there. Damn.

My work day went down the drain because I spent the whole time troubleshooting. I was so tired and hungry but the end. I had some double bad luck because my phone charger also broke so I had to borrow the front desk lady’s so I could keep talking to support.

I talked to Bryden a guy from Canada and he tried to help because his sister had the same issue but he also had no luck. He suggested I go into Quepos to a computer store to see if they could fix it… or at least get a new cellphone charger.

So I got myself on the public bus and road it to town. It was a busy bus but fun to ride with the winding road.

At the computer store a nice man named Juan Carlo who spoke maybe 10 words of English helped me. I can speak about 10 words of Spanish so it was a bit of a tough combo to explain technical issues so I relied on google translate to carry us through. As a joke I would write nightmare in google translate and play it out loud which I think he thought was funny since my computer situation is not looking fantastic overall. - Pesadilla = nightmare

He felt that he know what needed to be fixed and asked that I leave it there to be picked up by noon tomorrow. This made me a bit nervous because I’m in a foreign place and I need to catch my bus tomorrow but I trusted Juan Carlo so I said okay.

Back at the hostel I missed drink and draw night, they were half way through so I said hi to my friends and then went to shower off the stress of the day and get ready as they told me they were getting dinner after the paining was done.

The rain started coming down like crazy so we decided to sit and eat at the hostel restaurant. It was me a software tech consultant named Josh, Allan who works in medical tech, Bryce (my Canadian friend who works for the CFL), Ryan who has his own solo software start up (from Buffalo NY) and then there was a girl who came late and I didn’t catch her name because they all knew her and it was too loud to do a proper intro.

I had nachos and asked Josh a million questions about his travels, he has been abroad for 8 years now, 6 in Bermuda working for an American company and then 2 nomading around South America.

I’m starting to get the hang of making friends. On the way to my room I stopped at the front desk and made friend with Geovanna the desk girl. She told me about her dating in Costa Rica, sounds like boys are the same everywhere you go haha. She is 19, same age as Emma so it felt like chatting with a younger cousin almost. She was a sweetheart and told me about how finding snakes in your bed is not unheard of where she lives haha. Once a gecko fell off the ceiling onto her forehead lmao that made me laugh out loud.

They are everywhere, but cause no issues and just eat the mosquitoes so they actually like having them around. Little friends.

  • Tomorrow I will add more photos of the working space. I was going to do both posts today since I was a day behind with computer issues but it’s 10 pm and I need to be up at 6am tomorrow for my travel day so I think I’ll just call it a night and update more when I get to Ontario. Today wasn’t that’s crazy just getting ready to leave Costa Rica, and picking up my computer. I’ll tell you all about it next post <3
