How to build a brand: Day 1
We had 3 day condensed course called how to build a brand and I thought it was amazing! I didn’t write about it because my days consisted of waking up early, commuting, 8 hours of class, commute, gym, dinner, shower, then bed, but I thought it was worth doing a retrospective on. This class and professor really drew me in, I genuinely listened and paid attention for the full days. Apparently the average millennial’s attention span is about 7 seconds, which is less than a gold fish… So you could say I was above average this week.
I don’t want to poorly summarize everything we learned in class because I doubt anyone will read it or will get the full benefit because it was a real you have to be there to get it sort of situation. But here are just a few take aways I grasped from day 1. (If anyone is interested in a coles notes style chat about the class I would be happy to have coffee)
***DISCLAIMER: I wrote this a month after the fact and it is my interpretation of what he taught us and its only the aspects that jumped out to me. If you want to learn more about the Luxury industry and how to actually build a brand I would read his book haha and not my class summary lol.
-Our professor was Laurent Lecamp, he founded Cyrus watches and now works at Bucherer. MORE HERE
When you are starting a company it’s all about:
thinking about your future, not getting stuck on the product concept
start nothing with your head, use your gut. (Love, business, etc.) Feel it.
easy to find the money when you have a good idea
it’s not about working hard in an office, its about knowing what people want (the relationship is the key) especially in luxury
how does a small brand make noise? Do something crazy and out of the box
when you believe in your idea, follow through and make it happen or you will always wonder
Life advice:
Learn languages, you don’t have to be fluent but learn enough to express yourself
Fight to be different, people apply for jobs all the time, but if you set yourself apart with sport, language and unique communication like write a letter, it is much more meaningful than and email
Always be over the box, observe what is done and reach higher
Success is an attitude, everything is based on how you react to the world and what you put out there
The way you do everything, influenced others energy
Take risks, it will pay back
Pressure kills success
Take the time to share what you know
3 things to pay attention to
1. CURIOSITY
2. You should be surprised by something every day3. Be different, that is what the world looks for
