Fire in the hole
Today started out safely. I woke up, ate breakfast, did some cleaning and got ready to go to the beach with Kristina to meet up with Maddy. I bought a meringue on the way there and snacked on it as we watched the cutest friendship form between a little girl and little dog.
Later we went to the gym and learned our passes expire tomorrow. :( I don’t think we are going to renew our membership because the weather has gotten so nice and running outside has been really nice so we might save our money and stick to that.
On our way home I had my first brush with death of the day. A vespa came barreling around the corner and nearly hit us. I didn’t have time to react so I just stood there and braced my knees as it swerved around us. That guy was being very dangerous because it is a walking street so there were lots of elderly couples walking and kids. My little neighbours (the scruffy dogs) barked at his vespa and made a big fuss out of it, at least they have my back.
Our incident of the day was when I accidentally started an oil fire in our oven trying to bake a chicken breast. Our oven is a tiny toaster oven and the pan they provided is too big to fit unless you tilt it. This is usually fine but I guess the chicken was more juicy than expected and the oil/fat spilled over the edge of the pan and set fire. It was so funny how opposite Kristina and my reactions were. Sort of like with the vespa I just stood there for a second, thinking wow this is happening, while Kristina immediately starting running around in circles yelling to Emma. Once I processed the situation I quickly turned off the oven and grabbed the fire extinguisher incase it spread. It seriously could have been a scene from the 3 stooges.
With the door closed the fire went out on its own. Thank goodness, because we couldn’t get the fire extinguishers pin out! I know how to use a fire extinguisher, it’s really not rocket science, but when I tried to pull the pin out just incase I needed to use it, it was jammed. We got the pliers out and fixed the problem so we’ll be prepared in the future (but honestly I don’t trust that fire extinguisher to work anymore) . Hopefully this doesn’t happen again. Moral of the story: No chicken or oily/ drippy food in the oven.
