Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Jan 1st was one hell of a travel day!

We flew Vancouver to Seattle to Paris to Nice, took a tram to the train station, then trained to Antibes where we taxi’ed to our new place. Quite the trek….. by the time we got in we clocked at 25hr travel day.

I was lucky, on the two short flights I got to sit alone and on the 10 hr SEA -> CDG flight Emma and I got the emergency row with huuuggggee amounts of leg room. Air France decorated the walkway with New Years decorations and handed out party hats!

Unfortunately, my water mug spilled and completely soaked my backpack. The French flight attendant thought I was a fool and was not having any of our sh*t as I proceeded to empty the puddle of water in from my bag in the plane’s toilet. I was pretty lucky because nothing was damaged too badly…my laptop gave me a real scare by not turning on, but its working now! A lame start to the flight but things turned around when they brought around Champagne for new years. I made a mimosa with plane OJ. Turns out mimosas are not a thing in France so once again the attendant thought I was a bafoon, hahaha oh well I think that is going to be a reoccurring theme until I can figure out the local customs/ culture and start to fit in…maybe…I hope. The locals on the journey from airport to Antibes were incredibly helpful. Especially Mathilde, a wonderful 20 something girl who completely saved us and helped us find the tram, get a ticket and completely spelled out the route for us. What a saint. 🙌

Once we finally made it to our place we had to sit out in the street for a long time because our landlord/ host guy had an emergency come up. Haha as you can tell our travels were very smooth.

Our place seemed very strange and foreign at night. It basically feels like a treehouse… I got to chat with my mom when I arrived and then Doug later at night. (Hello Mr., big shout out to you for being my rock and most likely the only reader of this post.) I was so happy to see their faces even if it was just through the phone. I was super stressed and exhausted so it was time for bed pretty quick.
